I wrote this blog post six--maybe eight months ago. I have been waiting to post it. And now is the time to share this cool story. Check it out:
The thistle is Scotland's national emblem. And this picture was taken in our yard! Now I don't really believe in signs and I'm not superstitious; but I do like to see things come together in a cool way, especially things that have not yet happened. So what is so cool about a thistle growing in our yard? What does that have to do with Scotland?
Brian recently visited Scotland with some other pastors and met with some people who are wanting to start a church. Only 2% of the people in Scotland say that they are believers in Jesus Christ. Scotland is actually now considered to be an unreached people group. So after Brian's trip to Scotland, (He bought me a silver thistle ring!) I had the opportunity to join him with the others in talking and praying about helping start a church in a suburb of Edinburgh Scotland! And thistles have been popping up in our yard! So why does this excite me? Because I am learning to go where God is already at work and to join him there. (Thank you Henry Blackaby.) And we can clearly see that God is at work in Scotland! So many things are already lined up. God is already working in the hearts of people. And a castle! There is a gorgeous castle for sale that is just waiting to be purchased and used for a church planting training center. The plan is that this center would be used to plant churches all over the UK. Yes, God is doing a work already in Scotland to draw people to himself. So we are praying and we are excited about helping these people develop a church planting movement in Scotland. (Of course we are staying here! But I do want to visit Edinburgh!)
Maybe this blog post is a little foreshadowing of what I think is going to happen. Why? Because I have seen God do stuff like this before. He works in people's hearts and "coincidentally" brings people together in such a unique way that HE GETS THE GLORY because it is his work! He loves all people with an infinite, passionate love. How cool if West Ridge Church could be a little part of this incredible story in Scotland!
(Since I wrote this, God has been at work in a powerful way! This new church plant has a pastor and leaders and people to serve. They plan to launch their first service on Easter Sunday!)
